Who is “Emmett”?
Sean Berdy, Deaf actor, portrays Emmett on ABC Family television show called “Switched At Birth.” Emmett plays the authentic Deaf character bringing Deaf Culture awareness that many people from the Deaf Community and Hearing Community have come to enjoy. The handshape in the middle of his name means “I love you” in American Sign Language, which is fitting as Emmett is winning our hearts over.

Have you watched the new television series “Switched at Birth” on ABC Family? I watched all of the episodes and was excited when I first saw several of the actors signing in American Sign Language. It was AWESOME! It is really nice to see a show that in some ways, protrays the Deaf community as well.
During the first season, you may or may not know…
I was an extra on the television series set in Carlton School for the Deaf.
Daphne Vasquez (Katie LeClerc) wore PAH shirt from by MARA.
I am really looking forward to the new episodes of the second season of “Switched at Birth”!!
Deaf Nation in Riverside, Ca
May 6-7, 2011
California School for the Deaf Riverside (CSDR) welcomed Deaf Nation as the host at their school for the very first time. I had never been to CSDR in my entire life. CSDR is a good place for students, ASL students, family and friends to attend a Deaf Nation event. The weather was good, not too hot. I want to thank my wonderful By Mara team: Rachel Tan, Chris Peters, Mike Shapiro and Kalynn Dean. We stayed in Riverside for three days and we had a great time working together inside and outside.
The By Mara business is still going strong and one of the items, New Tank top, is almost out of stock!
The By Mara booth had a huge surprise! Actress Katie Leclerc and actor Sean Berdy, from
Switched at birth, came to my booth and they really loved HANDSHAPES. Sean Berdy bought so many Handshapes products! It was exciting to meet them and I wish them the best of luck on their show, which will premiere on June 6 on ABC Family.
Also, we enjoyed keeping company with our neighboring booth, Pah! Studio by Eddie. It was Eddie’s first time and his company looked really successful. Many customers had fun taking pictures at Pah! Studio. It was funny to see customers who purchased my Handshapes products then they went to Pah! Studio for pictures or vice versa. From now on, Eddie and I would love to have our booths next to each other.
I found an iDeaf news video about what took place at Deaf Nation in Riverside. Check this out!! ideafnews.com
